The
New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) is
delighted to be hosting the IFPRA Asia Pacific Conference
2008 in Christchurch, New Zealand. The joint 2008 IFPRA
Asia Pacific Congress and NZRA national conference will bring
together leading international and national speakers, parks and
recreation professionals and practioners to discuss and debate
the role of parks and recreation in connecting people and places.
The 2008 congress theme –
Making Connections
will focus on the interpersonal, intersector and international connections
that are transforming the parks and recreation environment.
The venue for this exciting and at times challenging congress is Christchurch,
New Zealand. Situated on the east coast of the South Island, the
City of Christchurch has a population of 350,000 people and over
700 parks used for conservation, recreation and sporting activities.

Keynote Speakers
The organising Committee are pleased to announce that the following
people have been confirmed to speak at the Congress as Keynote
Speakers.
Dr Carol Stensrud - Inclusive Recreation Researcher,
Trainer, Author and Consultant Senior Lecturer at Lincoln University,
Community Recreation Degree. Professor Emeritus of Leisure Studies,
California State University at Sacramento, USA.
Gil Penalosa - Multicultural executive, global
thinker and marketing strategist, Gil Penalosa is passionate about
improving Quality of Life through the promotion of Walking and
Bicycling as activities and of Public Spaces, Parks, and Trails
as great places.
Steven Carden - Engagement Manager in McKinsey
& Company's New Zealand Office. Prior to joining the New Zealand
office in early 2007, Steven spent three years serving North America's
largest companies out of the New York office.
Stephen Coleman - forging community park partnerships
across the the Washington, DC region, and is a leader in the growing
worldwide urban parks movement, assisting park partnerships across
the U.S. and beyond.
